Sedation options for patients with dental anxiety or dental phobia

Patients with anxiety enjoy working with us because they always prioritizes comfort and offers a completely judgment-free environment. Sedation dentistry can be a wonderful option for patients with moderate to severe dental anxiety and can ensure you receive the care you need without fear, pain, or worry.

IV sedation

Through an intravenous injection, a saline solution containing sedative medication can be used to put patients to “sleep” during a dental procedure. IV sedation can be a good choice for those with severe anxiety since the level of sedation is adjustable. This means you can remain conscious if you would like to, or undergo heavier sedation if you begin to feel more anxious or uncomfortable.

Oral sedation

For patients who may suffer from a fear of needles, oral sedation may be the perfect option. We can offer you medication that you can take an hour before your procedure that will help relax your body and mind. You might even fall asleep!

Nitrous oxide

Nitrous oxide is a great option for nervous young children and those with milder forms of dental anxiety. Also known as laughing gas, nitrous oxide is administered through a breathing mask. The effects will make you feel light, happy, and relaxed. Nitrous oxide also wears off the same day, meaning that you won’t have to experience long-term fatigue or plan your entire day around your appointment.
